Cadrus'
platform delivery technology is based on hollow, porous glucan particles which
take advantage of a novel three stage delivery and biodistribution process. The glucan particles (GPs) can be loaded with
a wide variety of payload molecules, including nutritionals, small molecules,
peptides and proteins. Enteric coated,
GP encapsulated drug formulations are then administered in pill form and pass
through the stomach to the intestine.
Here the GPs are transported across the intestinal wall by a natural
mechanism (M-Cell transcytosis) and are then taken up by macrophages and
dendritic cells via a glucan-specific receptor (dectin-1). These cells then migrate systemically throughout
the body carrying the drug loaded GP with them.
The rate and location of drug release can be tailored by the formation
of multi-layered complexes within the GP.
